Welcome to our Forum.
Im excited to see what you do with this.
Love the coupes.
I think I'll pipe up with something that I wish I knew when I started my build.
In my experience, some 1000 parts can be hard to find if you need something here and now.
When taking it apart approach it with the mindset that you will be reusing it again regardless of condition.
This simple approach will save you heartache down the line. (It has for me)
Looking foward to seeing your updates.
Ash.

Great to see a coupe in Melbourne or anywhere for that matter
Had one in the same white, I really miss it, was perfect with the
988cc engine, never missed a beat but something missed me
fueling her up as she was so economical stock standard.

what box will you use?
I found the CGA3DE has alot more go than the CG13DE
the torque comes in at 2800 not 4000rpm, bigger bore
and A15 length stroke on the crank still allows awesome revs

I will be using the A series box. I can make an adaptor or modify the bell housing to suit. Not looking at big power but yes I looked at the CGA but for the price I got the CG for I couldnt pass it up. I will be ditching the EFI and running twin webers and a set of extractors are easily modified. The rest is fairly simple stuff.

Im sure when you go bike carbs, edis ignition and free up that exhaust side
a very restrictive bit of iron, then it will be a lil beast

With a couple of weeks off over Xmas I will hopefully get the engine sitting in the car with mounts fab'd up so I can look at the inlet manifold and exhaust requirements...whilst I am busy with that my daughter will be starting the interior restoration...glove box and heater first on the list.

Im jealous that you have an offsider!
My kids are too small to really help, althought they both want to "help" all the time.
Im about to start on the fitting of the motor and box into my car. Interior to come later for me.
With the interior, are you going to make it back to standard? Vinyal and all? or you doing a custom job?

It will be her first resto but she is keen to have a go (22yo). I will let her start on some easier stuff first.
I need to make all new door cards etc so it will be all new. Still in two minds on what to do but I am thinking original styling with a few twists. Would love to keep the vinyl.
I am trying to do all the fab work over Xmas for my engine so it will be interesting to see some of your ideas as well in regards to mounts etc.
Cheers

I note that you are planning on ditching the EFI.
If you are having to run ECU controlled ignition, then its only 1 more step to run EFI, and that brings all the benefits and realibilty of EFI.
Dont get me wrong, twin side-draft carbs are awesome, or even quad bike carbs of some sort, but they can be a pain to tune well, and fuel economey can suffer as well. Twin sideys can throw a lot of fuel and air.
Since you have the whole motor, why not use the std intake and injection, and ignition?
A delco from anything holden from about 1987-2005 can be squeezed to work on any motor without too much difficulty.
Just wondering on your choice is all.
PS twin carbs are way cool.... so much cooler than EFI will every be.

As far as i know there is no rule saying that you have to run the factory fuel delivery system.
Ther is how ever rules regardnig emmisions. You must run the factory specified emmisions systems (or better) for the motor and car.
For the Dat, there is nothing so that makes it easy.
For that motor, i imagnie catatlytic converters in the exhaust, carbon catcher, intake manifold heating, plus other fancy stuff that nissan has packed in there. In WA you would need to prove what year the motor came from, else they will assume the latest model and apply the emissions reulse from that year.
So running carbs, if you can pull the wool over their eyes is the eaisest option, however you may hit stumbling blocks on the emmisions stuff.

Back home after a few weeks away with work...now to get into mating up the box to the motor and get all the mounts made. Looks to be a couple of different ways to go about it.
At this stage I am leading towards twin carb set up. This part of the build will be towards the end so I have plenty of time to think about it.
I will start posting up some pics as I go once I get a few things started over the next couple of days.
Cheers

Well I achieved a little bit today with mock up of the box to the engine. I will be making a new backing plate (made the MDF one today to get all the clearences sorted) out of 8mm steel. It is basically just a spacer ring. I will be running the Micra flywheel, clutch and pressure plate as these all work with the box. The backing plate will house the Micra starter as well. I will be running it alongside the box lower drivers side. Clearence should be OK from the measurements I did so it is just a matter of modifying the box bell housing slightly.
Cheers

whats the plan for pollution gear, no need for club plates or is this going to be purely a track car?

The car will be road registered...it will not be hitting the track. I have another car for that. As far as pollution gear goes I am thinking of of building 2 versions...a pre registered and after registered version.

Thats awesome so you will pass it with all the pollution gear then put the carbs on and ignition etc?
Its gonna sound grouse with carbs, all engines sound better with carbs
